Description:

Social bookmarking is a method for Internet users to organize, store, manage and search for bookmarks of resources online. Unlike file sharing, the resources themselves aren't shared, merely bookmarks that reference them.

Assignment:

  1. Watch the slideshow in "Section 1- What is social bookmarking?" to learn about social bookmarking.
  2. On your Digital Dozen wiki, create a new page called "Social Bookmarking". On your "Social Bookmarking" page, write a definition of "social bookmarking" in your own words (imagine that a fellow teacher asks you, "What is social bookmarking?" What would you say to explain social bookmarking to him/her?)
  3. Briefly explore the social bookmarking tools listed in "Section 2- What Social Bookmarking Tools are Available". Read the tutorials and idea links for each tool.
  4. Answer the discussion questions found on the Discussions tab of this wiki page. The "official" questions are the 2 posted by "amypintx". Feel free to add any discussion topics of your own as well.
  5. Select the social bookmarking tool that you like best and create an account. Begin bookmarking and tagging a few sites that are of interest to you (you could start by bookmarking some of the great blogs you found last week!)
  6. On your "Social Bookmarking" page on your Wikispace, write your ideas for using social bookmarking personally or in your classroom. Add a link to the social bookmarking account you created.
  7. Read the answers to the discussion questions posted by your fellow Digital Dozen classmates. Respond to any comments that you feel strongly about or feel you have something to add.
